There are two main methods for calibrating piezoresistive pressure sensors: customer calibration and manufacturer calibration.

1.Customer self-calibration

The advantage of this method is flexibility, especially when the microcontroller is already installed in the final product, so the customer can complete the active calibration through the microcontroller. However, customer self-calibration also has some disadvantages:

● Difficulty in online calibration: Online calibration can be highly destructive and difficult to implement.

● High time cost: Each sensor needs to be calibrated individually, which cannot be done in batches, resulting in high time cost.

● Requirement of specialized equipment: The temperature range and specialized equipment required for calibration may exceed the customer's existing resources.

2.Manufacturer calibration

The manufacturer fully compensates and calibrates the piezoresistive pressure sensor during production, and then delivers the pre-calibrated sensor to the customer for subsequent integration. The advantages of this method are:

● Time saving: The customer does not need to perform additional calibration work, which can save a lot of time.

● Strong professionalism: The manufacturer has professional calibration equipment and experience to ensure the accuracy of the sensor.

● High reliability: Sensors calibrated by the manufacturer are generally higher in quality and reliability.

In actual applications, customers can choose the appropriate calibration method based on their own needs and resources. If the customer has professional calibration equipment and experience, and needs to flexibly adjust the calibration parameters of the sensor, then self-calibration can be selected. If the customer wants to save time, reduce costs and ensure the accuracy and reliability of the sensor, then choosing manufacturer calibration may be more appropriate.

In addition, for the calibration of piezoresistive pressure sensors, the following points should be noted:

● Calibration environment: Calibration should be performed in a stable, interference-free environment to ensure the accuracy of the calibration results.

● Calibration standard: Calibration should be performed using calibration equipment and pressure sources that meet the standards to ensure the traceability and accuracy of the calibration results.

● Calibration cycle: The sensor may degrade in performance during use due to environmental changes, aging, and other factors, so regular calibration is required to ensure its accuracy.

In summary, the calibration methods for piezoresistive pressure sensors include customer self-calibration and manufacturer calibration. Customers can choose the appropriate calibration method based on their own needs and resource conditions, and pay attention to factors such as the calibration environment, calibration standards, and calibration cycle to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the sensor.
